Visconti |
Family dynasty ruled Milan and the surrounding region of Lombardy from 1277 to 1447. The name Visconti was formed from the family's title of Viscount. One of the line, Gian Galeazzo Visconti conquered Verona, Vicenza and briefly held Padua. Then he occupied Siena, Perugia, and Bologna and even threatened Florence, which was saved only by the dissolution of his kingdom after he died of the plague. |
